Do you want to have a beach wedding? Does the thought of getting married by the ocean excite you? If the answer to these questions is a resounding yes, read on.
Beach weddings have gained much popularity in Kenya and around the world in recent years. They give a couple and their guests endless possibilities. Be it dancing barefoot on the ocean shores, sand between feet, rhythmic sound of waves, everything about a beach wedding screams romance. So what should a couple know before settling for a beach wedding? Check out the tips below:
Accessibility
PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort and Spa Cluster Marketin Manager Caleb Chirchir says the first thing a couple should consider when holding a beach wedding is accessibility.
According to Chirchir, many couples overlook the accessibility factor once they have liked a location. He urged couples to consider the guests’ convenience and how easy it would be to get to the venue.
“I would tell a couple to pick a resort that is easy to get. PrideInn Paradise, for instance, is easily accessible to guests. The hotel is located along the Mombasa-Malindi highway, and it is 20 Kilometres from Mombasa town,” he said.
He also recommended PrideInn Flamingo, which is equally accessible to guests, as it is located in the same area as PrideInn Paradise.
Windproof décor
Chirchir also encourages couples to consider décor suitable for an outdoor set up. He said that because of the nature of the location, couples get to cut down on décor costs.
“A beach wedding already has a magnificent display of nature. So a couple will probably spend less on décor. For instance, a couple would not need to use balloons and towering candles to beautify the location,” he said.
Couples should therefore think twice about super lavish flowers, towering candles, and even windy ribbons and balloons, which may get blown away by the wind. Instead, couples should use sturdy décor and avoid breakable items.
He also urges couples to choose flowers that stand up well against high temperatures and will not wilt before the ceremony begins.
Couples holding their wedding at PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort or PrideInn Flamingo stand to benefit from a variety of the resort’s décor material. Chirchir added that the resorts have specialists who would recommend good décor designs and items to celebrate the big day.
Research about the weather
When is it most likely to rain in Kenya’s coast? When is it too hot to comfortably sit outside for more than 15 minutes at a time? At what time of the day does it become too windy? A couple planning to hold a beach wedding will also need to consider these factors.
Chirchir asks couples to ensure they get the specifics on the weather as they settle on a wedding date. For instance, being located in a tropical zone close to the equator, Chirchir said the weather in Mombasa varies very little over the course of the year.
“Using official data, we have found that the average temperature in Mombasa all year long is around 86 degrees F, with the average number of daylight hours also staying the same at around 8 hours per day.”
Key to note, though, is that most parts of the country experience two rain seasons: March to May’s “long rains” and October to December’s “short rains”.
The months from June to August are mainly cool and dry, except for some parts in the western region that report some rains. Hot and dry conditions are observed over the entire country in January and February.
